Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator

Job Description:  Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator 1.0 FTE  40 hours


Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain brave space for SCRC participants, upholding Code of Ethics and trauma-informed values

  • Work collaboratively with peers to design marketing materials for print, radio, local presentations, and events 

  • Work with peers to create and adapt presentations to various community audiences: business, healthcare, civic, academic, criminal justice 

  • Recruit members of the community to the SCRC

  • Serve as ambassador/liaison to community agencies, consortiums, and coalitions/task forces locally, state-wide (MOAR, SOAR) and nationally (Faces and Voices of Recovery) 

  • CAPRSS Accreditation process coordinator

  • Work with peers to enhance membership opportunities, recovery support, building of recovery capital, and knowledge of the SCRC through information sessions (membership orientation, outreach committee, etc…) and outreach to community organizations, including schools, health care facilities, local businesses, area churches, civic organizations, etc.

  • Coordinate peer recovery advocates to promote the SCRC and educate and inform the community about recovery obstacles and possibilities.

  • Tobacco Education Coordinator for the Department of Public Health Bureau of Substance Addiction Services.

  • Ensuring Rural Recovery’s mission is conveyed to the public.

  • Create content and post to social media and engage with traditional media.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in outreach and community building

  • Close familiarity with local recovery community

  • Extensive knowledge of Berkshire County community, including service providers, local businesses, and community supports, etc.

  • Recovery Coach training and Recovery Coach Supervisor Training 

  • Able to work and manage a flexible schedule including some weekends, nights, and holidays

  • Strong program planning and coordination skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of group dynamics and solid group facilitation skills including virtual meeting facilitation

  • Understanding of or experience with peer-participatory model

  • Strong skills in computer programs such as Squarespace, Mailchimp, Canva, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Experience with strength-based approach to leadership development

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong interpersonal boundaries


Experience: 

  • Must have lived/living experience with substance addiction recovery



Travel Requirements: Occasional travel throughout Massachusetts

Recovery Coach


Job Description: Recovery Coach at the SCRC

Duties and Responsibilities:

Establishes recovery-relationship with recoveree, explains recovery Coach role, discusses principles of self-determination and ethical considerations including confidentiality, and recoveree determination to continue or end the coaching relationship.

Obtains a signed contract from each recoveree after reviewing the above;

Assists recoveree in identifying their strengths and recovery capital; 

Assists recoveree in creating and achieving goals using their Wellness Plan;

Identifies recovery resources and assists recoveree in identifying and overcoming barriers and obstacles to recovery;

Provides telephone support as needed between in-person sessions with recoveree;

Accompanies recoveree to initial mutual-aid meetings, court and other providers as needed;

Serves as role model and advocate, utilizing a recovery oriented supportive environment framework;

Understands and uses agency policies and procedures including the Recovery Coach Code of ethics. Seeks clarification as needed from Recovery Coach Supervisor;

Attends monthly group coach meetings currently held the third Tuesday of every month at 3pm;

Attends one-on-one supervision weekly or bimonthly depending on number of recoverees (≥ 5 requires weekly meetings);

Provides coverage for recoveree when absent for a week or more;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrates organization, time management and prioritizing skills;

Demonstrates follow-up and follow-through skills;

Manages relationships with recoverees and other agency coaches in a constructive and positive manner;

Eligibility Criteria: Recovery Coaches at the SCRC must have lived experience, and have experience with adults with substance addiction. This individual should have experience and knowledge regarding the addiction treatment service system, recovery values and principles, and other related human services. Completion of BSAS or CCAR Recovery Coach training required. Must work toward CARC credential.

Recovery coaches at the South County Recovery Center are supervised and mentored by the center director.
